All students enrolled study Ballet and Jazz. Tap and Pointe Classes are optional and students must register for these classes separately. Pointe classes are available to ages 12 through adult if feet have stopped growing and the student is ready. Preschool classes include Basic Movement and Pre-Ballet. A complete adult program is offered. Classes are open to ages 3 through adult. SPECIAL FEATURE: Students may attend more than one age-appropriate class per week at no extra charge! Please inquire about possible extra times... DANCE WEAR All students are required to have regulation dance wear. Girls and Adults should have scoop-neck, long-sleeved, black leotards, pink tights and pink ballet shoes. Girls and Boys tap shoes are black. Ladies in the adult class may wear leotard and tights of any color, warm-up suits or stretch clothing and ballet shoes. Older students may need to have White Jazz Shoes, Jazz Sneakers or Tan Character shoes for some numbers. Dancewear may be purchased at the studio if you wish. Items should be paid for when they are received. Current average prices are listed Adult Sizes Children's Sizes Ballet Shoes-------------$20.00 Ballet Shoes-------------$20.00 Tights------------------$7.00 Tights----------------- $6.00 Leotard----------$18.00-25.00 Leotard---------$ 15.00-$20.00 Adult Tap Shoes--$35.00 or $60.00 Boys Tap Shoes---$19.00-$40.00 Child Tap Shoes------$18.00(7-3),20.00(Over 3) Toe Shoes-$56.00+ Character Shoes-$25.00 Jazz Shoes-$20.00-$60.00
Please label all dance wear with identifiable initials or name and perhaps a date! All students must wear shoes...no bare feet please! The dance wear mentioned above is necessary for performances, publicity pictures, etc. Colored leotards and tights may be worn for class. Tights should be worn to keep muscles warm. Any “warmer garments” should be tight fitting so that the instructor can see body posture, form and turnout. My stock of dance wear and shoes are for sale to my students only because I am not a retail business. We recycle dance wear. Turn-in whatever you no longer need or want for credit on new dance wear. You may purchase dance wear and shoes anywhere. GROOMING Hair must be controlled for class and for performances. All hair which is long enough to be tied back or worn up should be. Think in terms of classical studio-wear...A Professional Look! Please carry rubber bands, hair pins and comb or brush in your bag. Noisy, heavy jewelry is not appropriate for class and no jewelry (except for costume pieces) should be worn for performances. NO GUM CHEWING or eating during class. Dancing with anything in your mouth is not safe! Parents, please have your children properly dispose of gum before class!!! Attend class with the proper dance wear and always bring all shoes. Dressing rooms are inside the studio and should be used for coats and bags. We need to keep all hallways and exits clear! WOODEN DANCE FLOORS are difficult to maintain. We have had problems with slippery spots over the last few years. Because of the pattern I believe it is fabric softener residue left on the floor when we do our floor stretches. Waxy dust appears in patches...PLEASE do not use fabric softener in dance clothes!! Also...Do not enter the studio with wet boots and shoes. Walk around the edges! I appreciate your cooperation. BEHAVIOR DURING CLASS Students should be very quiet during class unless there is a class discussion going on. I encourage socializing but it should not restrict progress. I explain positions and steps and I need to be heard. Please try to be on time for class so that you do not miss warm-up and new material. There should be no running in the studio or in the rest of the building. Do not hang on the barres and do not touch the mirrors. Students causing a disturbance or who refuse to participate will be asked to leave the room - this does not mean those who are frightened, hesitant or shy - only those misbehaving! Dancers should demonstrate energy and enthusiasm for the time they are in class. PAYMENT AND ABSENCES * Bills for lessons and dance wear will be ready at the beginning of every month. They will be placed in the holder on the speaker in the studio. You may pick them up there. Payment can be made anytime during the month. Checks should be made payable to DIANE HALVERSON. If you wish to send cash, please enclose it in an envelope with your name on it. If there is a problem and payment is difficult at a particular time, please contact me and make special arrangements for payment. Payment more than 2 months delinquent with no special arrangements made may result in cancellation of lessons for that student. There will be no credit given for lessons missed...they should be made-up. Please send word or phone if the student must miss for any reason...there may be other classes he or she could attend during the week. There will be no charge for classes canceled by the instructor. If students must miss a performance it is especially important to phone. I try to give students the opportunity to perform at special events. I request that students notify me if they can’t be there because that is the professional thing to do.
CLASS SCHEDULES *Classes will be held every week...Scheduled vacations are: NO CLASSES: Thanksgiving, November 28 Christmas Break, December 21- January 5 Classes resume January 6, 2020. Easter Break - April 9-12 Memorial Day, May 25, 2020
Other vacations due to special events or performances will be announced. *Students are placed in classes according to age, size, experience, maturity and carpooling or transportation arrangements. If you have a problem attending at the designated time please contact me...something can be worked out. Notice that there is an overlapping of some ages on the schedule. This allows for flexibility - keep in mind that you want to be performing numbers appropriate for your age. Mothers, fathers or drivers should wait-if they wish to wait-in the Studio Apartment. From past experience I have found that observers in the Studio inhibit or distract students so... ...I DO NOT ALLOW OBSERVERS IN THE STUDIO DURING CLASSES. ... That includes siblings and friends unless you make special arrangements. If you wait please wait quietly. Loud noises can be heard in the studio. Children who wait must be confined to the Studio Apartment and should be quietly occupied. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE GIFT SHOPS FOR “PLAYING.” WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH CHILDREN PLAYING WITH MERCHANDISE!!! If the shops are open you are welcome to browse as long as children are supervised! Students arriving early for class should wait in the dressing rooms or the Studio Apartment. Activity inside the studio distracts the class in session. ***The Old Schoolhouse is a business so please move quietly through the building. Please dispose of trash in the containers and do not litter the grounds around the school. The building is owned by my mother and all maintenance is done by the family. Please note that there is NO SMOKING allowed anywhere in The Old Schoolhouse. Playground area equipment is not for public use. All students are asked to use the restrooms before class begins. Washrooms are on the 1st floor-the studio is on 3rd. No student should leave the room without permission. I want to know where students are - I am responsible for them. DANCES AND PERFORMANCES * All students (except for non-performing adults) participate in the annual Spring Show. There is a charge for costumes. We will use costumes from other years as often as possible. Many costumes are borrowed from my “back room” - with no rental charge! I sew costumes to keep the cost down. The balance of the costume bill-if any-will appear on the May Bill. Appearances and Performances are... The Old Schoolhouse Fantasy Fair, Sunday, December 7, 12:00 noon to 4:00pm This is informal performance in the Studio. Students dress as characters in their own costumes. The audience wanders in and out! *53rd Annual Spring Show - “The Old Schoolhouse...Dance Memories” at the end of May or early June performances are in the Dance Studio-small Theater Style. SPRING SHOW DATES WILL BE ANNOUNCED. PERFORMING ETHICS * I request that any dances choreographed by me not be performed without my permission. Credit for choreography should be announced or printed in program. Dances for upcoming performances must not be used until the performances are over. Please do not teach your dances to people who are not my students! My prices are reasonable-anyone can afford classes if the desire is there. Therefore, I feel that no one should learn the dances unless willing to attend classes and work! ALSO- please do not lend out your costumes to non-Diane’s Dance Studio people. Several people have been without when we needed them! PROFESSIONAL ETHICS * I am governed by professional ethics and many copyright laws. I am licensed by 2 organizations *BMI - Broadcast Music Incorporated and *ASCAP - American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. These licenses are allowing me to play music. I must purchase the licenses. I therefore, have agreed not to reproduce music, tapes or records or choreographic notes for anyone - please do not ask me to do so! I will order educational records or tapes for those wishing to purchase practice music. ~ I SCREEN ALL MUSIC PLAYED IN THE STUDIO FOR CLASS AND SHOWS. ~ MUSIC USED BY ME IS MORAL AND APPROPRIATE FOR ALL EARS. ~ MUSIC USED FOR CLASSES AND PERFORMANCES IS ALSO AGE-APPROPRIATE! ADULT CLASSES * Adults may register for all classes-Ballet/Jazz(required), Tap and Pointe(optional). Those interested in performing may sign up for Adult Performing. Performers receive a package which includes all classes for a reduced price. Adult performers are included in the Spring Recital and all other shows. SPECIAL DANCE COMPANY * For many years I have been offering a special adaptive dance class for developmentally handicapped teens and adults. There is no charge for this class and I provide all dance wear and shoes. Please speak to me about enrolling in this class! LITURGICAL DANCE COMPANY * Liturgical Dance may be described as a “choir of movement.” It combines body language, the dramatic expression and staging of the theater and the grace and discipline of dance. The Liturgical Dance Company is an interdenominational Christian group performing religious themes in dance. Members must be 12 years and older, regular performing students currently attending classes at Diane’s Dance Studio. They must be willing to travel to local and surrounding area churches for performances-often on Sundays. Most performances are around religious holidays and we request about 4 weeks notice in advance of the event so that we can make special arrangements. We do not profit individually from performances, but we do request mileage and meals. Performing costumes are provided by Diane. Leotards, tights and ballet shoes are the responsibility of the dancer. Anyone leaving the group is asked to turn in all costumes and T-Shirts. There are no auditions for the group-anyone interested in this form of witnessing should speak to me about becoming a member. Rehearsals for this group are arranged for the convenience of the dancers. Practice will be held after regular classes or on Saturdays when necessary. ***Theater Movement Workshop Classes***There may be a special Theater Movement workshop session offered during the season. Students and teachers involved in theater, production, music or choreography would benefit from the material presented. The course would consists of Basic Dance & Delsarte’s Theory of Movement/Body Language.
************************************************************************ Because dance compliments so many other arts and sports I want to make it available to as many people as possible so I keep the cost as low as possible. It is my desire to share the joy of dance…working, rehearsing and performing - with everyone. I hope that those who do not dance themselves enjoy seeing our performances. Those who do not perform will at least more easily appreciate the efforts of professional companies. I try to provide as much glamor and excitement in a theatrical sense as possible. I also hope to be a good role model for children. I don’t expect to become wealthy with my venture. I do, however, want my business to support itself and to help support my family. I also hope to help with building costs. Equipment, licenses, floor repair, printing, postage and production are expensive. Please tell your friends about our performances and encourage them to help support the art of dance in our community!!! *********************************************************************** Diane D.
